Avila Luxury Suites

The Lodge itself was wonderful, but our stay in the Avila suites was a letdown. We paid over $325 a night, which is more than I’ve ever spent on a hotel, and I expected a lot more from something advertised as “luxury.” I’ve stayed in better places at a Holiday Inn. I won’t return to Avila. The biggest problem was the heat. The HVAC ducts weren’t controlled by the thermostats for our rooms. The bedrooms are separated by the living room, and one bedroom’s thermostat even controlled the temperature in the other bedroom’s bathroom. It wouldn’t go below 72 degrees, though it was in the upper 60s outside. The living room and rooms were so hot we couldn’t shut the windows. There was plenty of space, private balconies, a full kitchen, and spacious modern bathrooms with jacuzzi tubs. But housekeeping was only available by request, and they left two small bars of soap for five people. We had to find the dumpster ourselves. The shower head didn’t work properly during the whole visit, the toilet backed up for no reason, and one bedroom had no screen door to the balcony.

Our two bedroom suite faced the lake, with a great view. It was spacious, clean, and nicely decorated, with a full kitchen and dishes, a dining table for four, and a living room with a gas fireplace. We didn’t request any services, but the staff we met were friendly and responsive. We’re definitely planning to return!

The Avila Luxury Suites had no refrigerators or microwaves, and the ice machine was broken. There were dirty dishes left on the walkway for days. In the Lodge, some toilets wouldn’t flush, and the bathroom TV didn’t work. The closet door was off its track, there were cracks in the plaster and shower floor, and the outlets were bad. The building looked rough, with exposed electrical conduit and poor lighting. There was just one vending machine, and the signs were confusing.

The service was good, and there are lots of nice amenities. Pretty nice place!
