Alpine Motor Inn

I chose this place for my annual fall foliage trip to Lake Placid because it was close to town and next to a beautiful golf course. I deeply regretted it. I woke up covered in bedbug bites, including all over my face. There was blood on the sheets. I can’t say whether it came from the bites I got overnight or from the previous guest’s experience with the bedbugs. Even after I showed the manager pictures of the bites on my face, they did nothing. I’ve never been so disgusted or put off by a hotel. Stay away.

We called ahead about our vacation and were told everything was set. Then, when we arrived, the guy at the front desk said our room had been canceled and there was nowhere for us to stay. He seemed to have been waiting for us to show up so he could laugh, and he was laughing as he told us. Absolutely disgusting. Don’t waste your money or time on this sorry excuse for a hotel.

Nothing matched what the Alpine Motor Inn website led us to expect. We paid extra for a view, but all we could see was a golf course to the left and mountains to the left. The restaurant and bar were closed, the lawn was unkempt, and there was no ice or soda machine. The coffee was supposed to be available in a small room in the office, but I found one small packet and no cups or anything else. There was no maid service, though the room had an envelope asking for a tip. The room was tiny and dirty, with papers on the floor, a loose toilet, and a tub that hadn’t been cleaned. The floors had two different levels, like they’d been patched. I found a long black hair in the sink, though neither my friend nor I has long or even black hair. There was nowhere to put bathroom things like toothbrushes except the windowsill. I’d never recommend this motel. It was the worst one I’ve stayed in.

That thing mounted on the wall like a fireplace kept pumping heat into our room until I woke up drenched in sweat, because the heat was broken. The room smelled like an old wet dog, and even the huge Glade plug-in we had to unplug couldn’t cover it. The mattress had collapsed on one side and nearly rolled me out of bed. I could feel the springs pressing into my back. There was also what looked like black mold growing on the bathroom window, which I’m told is bad to be around. Purple paint and homemade lumber furniture, too. Really nothing good to say about this place.
