I don't like leaving a bad review, and I hope this is useful both to people considering a booking and to the people who run this nice place as constructive criticism. We spent a few days here celebrating my birthday. For what we paid, I expected hand soap and body wash, but there was neither in our room. We mentioned it to an employee we saw on our first night, hoping she'd pass it along, but nothing happened, so we bought soap at the drugstore. We were also left alone all weekend. We didn't need anything, but no one was around in case we did, and nobody checked how we were or whether the room was okay. The website said bathrobes were provided, but there weren't any. The room was okayish, though the carpet had big bleach stains. The discounted low-season price of "$199" could be even lower since we basically looked after ourselves. The coffee and tea were fine, but the pastries were stale. If you don't mind no room service, the area is definitely beautiful.

I loved the gorgonzola squash ravioli, roast duck with mushroom risotto, and gnudi. The restaurant stood out well above everything else I tried in Placid this week, and the prices were reasonable. Definitely worth what you pay. Hats off to the chef!

This was a well below-average, overpriced restaurant with poorly done food. We were one of only two tables there, yet there seemed to be no effort. The server brought cold food and was not professional at all, drinking shots behind the bar where customers could see. The duck confit was soggy and past its prime, with none of the crispy skin that's one of the best parts of confit. My wife's lobster bolognese was straight-up cold. Embarrassing, uninspired cuisine. Hang it up!

We had a fixed-price Christmas Eve dinner, and everything felt off. Maybe it was just a bad night, but the staff seemed extremely overburdened and the food was barely mediocre. It was very expensive, and we left feeling we'd wasted a huge amount of money. I'm not interested in returning.

I'd give a zero if I could. They charged us for the room, then ignored our calls and emails for two weeks when we tried to ask about changing the date. Even if they were closed, someone could monitor messages, especially when they charge for cancellations. Poor service before we even arrived?
