Magnuson Hotel & Suites Lansing

The pool was only 62 degrees, barely warm enough for the kids. Other families got out because it was so cold. I called specifically before booking to check that the pool was heated and available. The room curtains were torn and needed replacing, though other rooms had new wood blinds. The tub looked old, but the rest of the room and public areas seemed to have been upgraded decently.

The front desk staff and housekeeping were friendly and helpful, but I can't recommend this place. I checked in Thursday, with four rooms booked under my name at the same time. My room smelled like old, musty fish, the tile was cracked and hurt our feet, the bathroom had hair everywhere, and the sheets had red stains. I asked to switch rooms, and the second one was even worse. The smell got into the clothes we had for a wedding, and nobody wanted to come to our room. I tried to let it go, but at checkout I was charged more for my room than for the other three. The owner first said it was because I had children over 12, which I didn't. He said he'd call to discuss the charge, but never did. When I called today, he claimed I had more children than allowed and said it was city policy, not hotel policy. He was extremely rude. I believe the extra charge was retaliation for asking to move rooms. He never brought up any issue with me while I was staying there.

I was here for work and would stay again. The place was clean, and the staff were helpful. Breakfast was good, with eggs, sausage, waffles, and a few other things. I didn't use the pool, but it looked inviting.

The room was clean, but the water was barely lukewarm. We stayed for two days and never got hot water.
