Latham Inn

The room was quiet, the Wi-Fi worked, and the bed was fine. But the toilet wouldn’t flush, the sink wouldn’t drain, and there was a gross residue on the floors. Don’t walk around barefoot. I usually wouldn’t leave a bad review, but a toilet that doesn’t flush is a basic thing you expect even at a motel.

I requested a first-floor room, but the front desk seemed to want us on the second floor, and we got what felt like the worst room available. The outlets beside the bed were taped over because they had no power, leaving no wall lights by the bed. The TV flickered too badly to watch, and the internet was too weak to listen to music. Water we put in the fridge froze. And don’t walk around barefoot.

I paid the cancellation fee and left right away. The doorknob and tub faucet were loose and hanging, and there were stains everywhere. The mini fridge was warm and looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. It was a smoking room, but smelled like dirty pig feet. I won’t consider this motel, or any place like it, again without seeing the room first. For $40 more and just two miles up the road, we got a pool, workout room, better breakfast, real air conditioning, and a clean room.

The balcony door is what made us leave. It looked like someone had kicked it in and the frame had been screwed back together carelessly. You could gently pull the handle and the frame would separate from the wall. That scared us. The musty smell hit us at the back entrance, and the hallway carpet was filthy. The room had the same smell, dirty carpet, and hair all over the bed. The only good thing was the restaurant out front, where we ate on our way out of that den-of-thieves motel.
