A Little Inn By the Sea

I checked for bed bugs and didn't find any. We did get beach towels and some beat-up bikes to use, which was nice, and the property was being renovated while we were there, so maybe it's improving. But the tile floor was in bad shape, the bed was awful, and the room could use about $5K in work. There's no elevator, so ask for the first floor. The front desk girl was brutal and mean to everyone, though it was almost funny. It's a fantastic beachfront location for just $170 a night, so our expectations were realistic, but it still wasn't good value. They don't put money back into the rooms, and it shows in the walls, fixtures, decor, appliances, sound, and clientele. We heard street traffic, ordinary conversation, and the next room's lamp switch through the thin walls. The window and door frames were cracked, the fridge chirped, and the furnace, foil ducting, and dangling wires were exposed in the closet. Plaster fell onto the stove while we cooked, and the mildew smell was strong enough to make me queasy, so we wrapped a wooden mini blind in plastic to seal it in. We wouldn't recommend it unless you won't spend time in the room, or the price drops to $60. Then we'd bring earplugs, bleach, and plastic wrap and enjoy the short walk to the beach.
