Sunny Shores Inn & Suites

The room was small, but clean, comfortable, and had a cozy beach feel for the two of us. It’s in a great spot across the street from the beach. Our only little complaint was the small double bed, since we’re used to a king, though it was comfortable enough. We’d happily stay again.

The studio was cute and check-in was easy, and the location is fantastic, just steps from Lauderdale by the Sea beach. I wanted to love the place, but that bed made it hard to enjoy the stay. It had a very hard, springy mattress, a rough, crinkly plastic cover, and a wobbly frame that squeaked. It felt more like a torture device than somewhere to rest. On our last night, other guests checked in after 11am, woke us up, and kept us awake until well past midnight.

Our first visit to Sunny Shores was in 2017, and my boyfriend and I came back the next year because we’d fallen for the privacy and service. That first time, the staff were great, with a handwritten welcome note, a clean room, and friendly hellos and thank-yous. In 2018 the staff had changed and were somewhat combative, though maintenance was super fast. They didn’t offer a discount to recognize our return for another 9 nights. On our final night, the wall behind the headboard and the ceiling over half the bed were leaking badly. I was literally sharing half my pillow with ceiling water. We texted the office and got an apology saying they hadn’t known about the problem. The wall clearly had stains from previous water damage, and they offered nothing to encourage us to come back.

Our group of five had a terrific stay in the three-bedroom, two-bath unit. The kitchen worked well, and the sitting area was so large it could host a party for 50, with sliding doors opening onto a lovely huge deck. The one small drawback was the second-floor location, since one person in our group had a bad knee. Great value in season.
