Breakfast had a good range of options, and there are LOTS of restaurants nearby within easy walking distance. The staff were friendly. One small hassle: the salt and pepper grinders were hard to use with a cast on one hand. We stayed in two rooms on separate trips through the area this week, on the way to and from home. Compared with another hotel we considered, this one’s layout seemed easier, though the hanging barn door for the bathroom sits right at the entry and makes it feel narrow. This was a standard suite, not an accessible room. The door doesn’t lock or latch, so it might suit little kids who lock themselves in, but it won’t give much privacy, and a pet could easily paw it open if you’re trying to keep them in the bathroom. The first room, 205, was great and didn’t have any real issues. The second, 221, had a temperature problem. The AC/heat could only be controlled from the wall thermostat, as far as I could tell, and kept shutting off. It was 72 in the room and even hotter in the second-floor hallway, though outside was in the upper 30s. We turned it down to 66 to try to get it going. The fan would run for a minute or two, then stop. My husband found a way to reset the thermostat with help from google, but we couldn’t make the fan stay on all night even with it set to “on” instead of automatic. We tried YouTube white noise on the TV, but it wasn’t the same, and we all slept fitfully. The rooms feel well made, though there’s visible age and wear. In room 205, you could see the seam on the ottoman. Room 221 had lots of carpet stains, peeling bathroom wallpaper at the edges, and paint coming down from the ceiling over the shower door. There’s a handy kitchen area with a full dishwasher, real dishes, a good-sized refrigerator, and a microwave. It’s set up well for a longer stay, though you can’t cook much beyond microwave food. The curtain can divide the space so one person can nap while another works at the pull-out desk or watches TV, but it doesn’t block the TV at all. The light reaches the whole room and the beds. It’d be interesting to try the setup flipped, or have the curtain extend wall to wall so it could actually separate the living and sleeping areas. We didn’t use the pull-out sofa bed, so I can’t comment on its comfort or quality. Its linens were in the cabinet below the TV. The queen beds were comfortable enough, neither too hard nor too soft. The pillows were disappointing, though. All three on each bed went flat within seconds.

The rooms were spacious and welcoming, with all the dishes and appliances I needed. Double Dogs next door was a great American food/sports bar. At check-in, the front desk agent was friendly but didn’t recognize me as a Hilton Diamond member. They handed me a bottle of water and called me a member. The icy, snowy parking lot wasn’t much of an issue until morning, when I got stuck trying to leave. With that much ice, I think they could have done more to maintain the lot and prevent problems for customers during severe weather. As a Hilton Diamond member, I think it’s important to share my experience at every location.

I can usually get a room here at the last minute, and the rooms are always clean. The staff have been friendly whenever I’ve interacted with them. They serve hot breakfast daily. Sometimes it’s not very flavorful, but it’s clean and not bad for a free breakfast.

This was my second stay, and it’s a great value. The room was large, breakfast was complimentary, and they even had hot cocoa in the evening. There’s a gym and indoor pool, plus half a dozen restaurants within walking distance, including a great steakhouse. It’s minutes from downtown Lexington, 20 from Old Friends Equine Retirement farm, 30 from Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve distillery, and about 80 minutes from Louisville.

Most of the hotel staff were absolutely amazing and kind, but my experience with Melissa, the assistant manager, was awful from the start. We stay in hotels often for hockey and haven’t been treated like this before. When all the parents were in the lobby, she came over to say our children were loud, that this was the only warning, and that we’d be kicked out. The way she spoke to us was uncalled for, and then she said she was calling the cops. The next day, she told one of the dads he’d been too intoxicated the night before to remember what he was doing or to parent. That was completely false. Another day, a few kids were with a parent who was working in the lobby. Melissa called several parents to say their children had been left unattended and that she was calling the cops. The parent heard the whole conversation and confronted her. She lied about these situations several times and took videos of children, though she refused to show us whose children they were. She was completely out of line. Reading the reviews, it seems families with children or dogs should avoid this hotel.
