Howard Johnson by Wyndham Lexington

The room and bathroom were bigger than I expected, and the whole building was well maintained despite being older. I have nothing but praise for the accommodations, and this stay makes me plan to look for Howard Johnson's in other cities too.

I was traveling from Texas to Virginia and booked a pet-friendly room with a King bed through Priceline for February 11. The reservation was in the system when I arrived, but the rude older man at the desk said no pet-friendly rooms with a King bed were available and started changing me to a full bed. I stopped him. I'd paid for a King, so I wasn't going to accept a smaller bed for the same price. He said the issue was between Priceline and me. I left and contacted Priceline for a refund. They say they've processed it, but I lost an hour and had to find another place at the last minute. They were rude and acted as if they could downgrade what I paid for because there was nowhere else to go. I wouldn't recommend this place or trust them again.

The whole place reeked of cigarette smoke, and the room was warm and humid with the balcony door left open. There were stains on the bedspread, black hair on the towels, dust and crumbs on the floor, and an outdated bathroom. I checked in only to check right back out. I raised the issues with the man at the front desk. He wasn't sympathetic or empathetic and offered another room, but the entire property smelled of smoke.

The only thing I liked was how close it was to highway 81, about a minute away. The property was badly outdated, smelled stale and smoky, and our room didn't seem clean, with lots of dust and pale rings around the toilet and tub. Breakfast wasn't impressive either, and both of our portions had hair in the food. I don't understand all the positive reviews and find them suspicious. We only stayed one night and knew it was a cheaper hotel with low expectations, but the price still didn't feel justified.
