Motel 6 Liberal, KS

The front desk lady and housekeeper were both really nice and helpful, and the room and bathroom were cleaner than I expected. The bed was comfortable too. Room 147 had a pleasantly large fridge, a microwave, and a single-serve coffee maker, though the microwave was very weak. It took 2:40 to heat 16 oz of room-temperature coffee. The fitness center was surprisingly good, with rubber-covered dumbbells from 5 to 50 pounds, a recumbent bike, dumbbell bench, treadmill, and elliptical. A good experience overall.

I heard a cat meowing and couldn’t figure out where it was coming from until I found it tied with a string under the bed in my room. The front desk guy said the previous guest had left two days earlier. That means the cat may have been there two days without food or water and nobody noticed. The hotel was negligent for not checking the room, and the last guest was responsible too. This is animal abuse. The guy told us not to call animal control, but this is abuse!

The young woman at the front desk was very nice when we arrived, and although the building is old, it was clean. My only complaint is that after driving from Flagstaff, my friends and I really needed a shower. We got in around 1 a.m., but only a few drops came out when we turned it on. We didn’t tell the desk until we were leaving because it was so late and we just wanted to sleep and get back on the road in the morning. I’m sure they would have helped if I’d mentioned it before we left.

The room was small and clean, though not spotless, and it was fine for a night’s rest. The handbook said pets cost $20, but I was charged $30 for each of my two pets. The woman working in the morning had no idea why I’d been charged that much, and I never got my $20 back. They also claimed to have a lot of things that weren’t there. If you just need a place to stay at an okay-ish price, this might work.
