TownePlace Suites by Marriott Baltimore BWI Airport

After a snowstorm, it took over a week for the parking lot and walkways to become safe for driving and walking. That was one of several disappointments during our extended stay at TownePlace Suites BWI. The breakfast also raised concerns. I saw the morning cook in the elevator carrying a box of food that appeared to be coming from her guest room, and the breakfast quality overall was off-putting. Staff interactions were consistently poor too. We didn’t get basic courtesies like “hello” or “good morning,” and the place felt unwelcoming. The $20 per day incidental hold also seems excessive for a long-term stay property with kitchenettes. Over 14 days, the hold added up to $280, which felt unreasonable. This Marriott-branded extended-stay hotel didn’t meet expectations.

The morning staff were very nice and welcoming, and I liked the large kitchen area in the room. The location is convenient too, right by the airport in a not-crowded area, with restaurants and a mall less than 10 minutes away. But the power went out around 1pm one day, and it was still off when we came back at 8pm. They offered to move us to another hotel for one night, but we didn’t want to move out and then back in. They didn’t offer a discount for the trouble either. The food was basic. The hotel was just okay.

The lobby was opened up for our group to socialize privately, which was awesome. All three rooms we used had kitchens, and the location was great. The elevators are slow, so bring some patience. They also have a shuttle, which you don’t see much these days. Five stars just for that.

We usually stay here when flying out of BWI, but this time we wanted a quick break from home. Since our flights are often in the middle of the night, we normally miss breakfast. This time we ate it every morning. There was something different each day, including fried or scrambled eggs, corn beef and hash, turkey sausage, french toast, bagels, yogurts, and other items. Everything was flavorful. During breakfast one morning, the fire alarm went off, and they kept breakfast going a little longer. Staff were pleasant, and check-in was easy. When I reported that the elevator had stopped working in the middle of the night, they reset it right away and there were no more issues. The hotel is close to restaurants and gas stations. It was quieter than most hotels, probably because people are usually coming and going for flights. We’ll definitely stay longer again.
