We stayed one night during the last week of October 2025, stopping because it was dark, rainy, and the weather was bad. It was just me, my young adult daughter, and our service animal. I pay close attention to safety. The hotel felt tucked away, and I saw people outside smoking with kids on their hips. The service desk woman was pleasant and accommodating, and said she felt safe working there and had no problems feeling secure. The hallway smelled terrible, but our room didn’t. Its window looked onto an alley between the hotel and another building, where old furniture and mattresses were stacked, so we kept the curtains shut. I went to the gas station next door, watching my surroundings. As I walked to the counter, the clerk asked if I had ID. I wasn’t buying anything that needed it. Two Hispanic men were trying to buy beer, and she said she needed to scan my ID because their Mexican ID wouldn’t scan. I was dumbfounded and asked if she wanted me to buy beer for them. She said no, they were of age but needed valid ID. Then she mentioned a store clerk had been shot and murdered, but said it was drug related and not to worry. It was weird, though unrelated to the hotel. We heard police sirens all night, which I thought might have been due to the weather. The hotel itself was okay. Staff were very friendly, including the nice, attentive man serving breakfast and the equally friendly desk clerk. We saw no bugs, and it had the most comfortable bed of our entire two-week vacation. I hadn’t seen the property’s reviews and wouldn’t have stayed if I had, but we were safe and nobody bothered us. Breakfast was fine, nothing special, like at other hotels. We parked out front by the office lights.
The building is run down, and my room was sweltering and smelly. There was dirt on the walls, cobwebs on the bedside lamp, no bulb in the floor lamp, rust on the bathroom light fixture, and not a single small towel until I asked the front desk. The pool was closed and looked gross. There’s no elevator, so keep that in mind if you need help getting upstairs. I requested late checkout for noon, but it wasn’t noted on my reservation. The next day the cleaning woman kept coming to my door and eventually told me to leave and talk to the desk, as if I were lying. By then I was furious. I’m a Diamond Choice member and know what their properties should look like. This hotel shouldn’t be under the Choice Hotel brand. I’m not someone who usually writes reviews, but they don’t deserve people’s hard-earned money, not even a cent. I must have made a mistake booking through the Choice app, because after reading the bad reviews I’d have avoided the place. I would have added photos if I’d thought to take them.
The room was a 1 out of 10. I saw at least six roaches crawling around, so I left for another room. That one smelled too, and had a huge hole where the bathroom vent goes, making me feel like someone in the next room could see me. I booked through Booking and paid $68 for the room. After I gave them the booking confirmation, they told me there’d be a $30 deposit. I didn’t get any money back, and I’ll never return. Check the room before paying, you have the right to do that.
Getting checked in was a mess. My booking couldn't be found, even after I showed it, and someone higher up had to be called. They did eventually let me stay without charging extra, but that was a pretty serious oversight. The name had changed sometime between booking and my visit to see the solar eclipse, so it seems the place may have changed hands. Housekeeping was available, which honestly surprised me. The room was clean enough and had no bugs, but hot water was hit or miss. I got it on the second night; otherwise it was lukewarm at best. The toilet kept running every 15 seconds because the tank leaked, and I had to shut it off at night. The lobby was dim and smelled of smoke in spots, and the outside didn't make a good impression. The parking lot needs new pavement and paint. The one plus was a quiet location just off the freeway. This place needs major upkeep and renovations before I'd stay again. I'd spend a little more for somewhere nicer until then.
Three beds were the only good thing about the room. The TV worked, but the remote wouldn't change the volume and it was blaring. Neither the alarm clock nor the room phone worked. I had to look up the front desk number online; when I told the receptionist, he came down and acted like none of it mattered. My family and I were there less than an hour, and we got no refund. Horrible experience. Never again.
