Americas Best Value Inn Livermore

We slept really well here. The linens and towels were clean and unscented, with none of the detergent or candle smells that give me a headache when we stay at Airbnbs. The beds were comfortable, there was plenty of hot water, and the motel was quiet, clean, hospitable, and inexpensive. It was just right for our night in Livermore.

I found the room spacious and clean, and both the bed and the chair were comfortable. It's a convenient place to stay before or after an appointment, close to Stanford medical facilities.

Getting to the hotel was awkward because of where it sits on the street. Once there, I had to ring the locked lobby door and wait about ten minutes before a woman came to help me through a glass window. I wasn't allowed inside the lobby. The room was in bad shape too: grime or goop on the walls and ceiling, carpet that looked unvacuumed, an old, awful-looking shower, and a stained chair that looked 40 years old. I don't recommend this hotel.

The room stank, though the WiFi worked well and local shops and food were an easy walk away. I stayed in room 105, where the smoke detector was missing. The pink-tiled shower was filthy, with old paint and moldy caulk and grout. The walls were dirty, the chair fabric was dirty, and the paint on the mirrors and doors was faded. There were no pictures. If that kind of thing bothers you, don't stay here. I can't understand the five-star reviews. At 59, after traveling to many countries, this was the filthiest hotel I've stayed in. I didn't look closely enough at the reviews and photos beforehand. My tip is to bring bleach or peroxide spray from Safeway across the street so you feel safe using the shower. Eat out and remind yourself why you went cheap, or spend another 20 bucks somewhere with a bit more dignity.
