The room was dirty: torn bedding, a strong chemical smell, and poop in the toilet. Getting another room was strangely difficult, and the front desk worker didn’t know how to issue a refund. I got sent in circles trying to reach a manager. The worker was texting the manager, but we never spoke with them. We left with written confirmation that a manager would contact us, but no refund was issued. Stay at your own risk.

The billing was confusing and unprofessional. They credited us for the wrong room, charged us again for another room, and took a $50 security deposit. I honestly can’t tell whether we were charged twice. When I asked for an invoice, the staff couldn’t provide one. They seemed untrained and didn’t show basic customer service. We waited more than 20 minutes to check in because nobody was at the front desk. When someone arrived, they gave us the wrong room, one bed instead of the double-bed room we’d booked. We were then moved into a filthy double-bed room with mold in the bathroom and refrigerator, a strong bad smell, uncomfortable beds, and a disgusting bathroom. Everything felt unclean. We’ve stayed at several Super 8 locations, and this was easily the worst. Poor service, dirty rooms, billing problems, and no accountability. Avoid this place.

We were glad our car was still there and hadn’t been broken into. The walls were paper thin, and one worker seemed to be in the adjoining room next to us, though we checked three times that the connecting door was locked. The whole place smelled awful and smoky, and it was very dirty with lots of safety problems. There were no working elevators to reach the 2nd floor. A person who “lives” there said the back door was propped open all the time. It had a chain wrapped in duck tape over the door to hold it open so workers could smoke and so on, since the workers all live there. We closed it and reported it to the front desk, but it was propped open again less than an hour later. We booked because we saw the Wyndham name and thought it meant a better place. That wasn’t true. At 7:30 pm, the outside sign was dark, like the hotel was closed. The only worker took ages to come to the desk, then handed us used key cards that looked like they’d been reused hundreds of times, along with an old, ripped envelope. In our room, the flipped lock was missing, pulled off with about 10 nail holes around where it should’ve been. The bathroom handle was broken, the door wouldn’t close because of uneven floors, there were missing tiles and a broken tub, the fridge didn’t work, the remote had no back, and the TV was in bad shape. A desk sign said “Manager on Duty: Ankur Patel.” Another said “This facility is independently owned and operated by Trikon Inc under a license agreement with Super 8 Worldwide, Inc.” It is a Super 8 by Wyndham. I’d give zero stars if posting allowed it, but the form required at least 1.

It was comfortable enough for a night’s sleep, and it wasn’t a total hole in the wall. Still, it wasn’t as clean as it should’ve been. People across the hall were partying until 1am, and there was no soundproofing between the rooms or doors. I wouldn’t pay $100 a night or more for it.

I’d spent money here for months, but when I used my last dollars for a room in the middle of winter, they wouldn’t let me stay without a deposit. I hadn’t expected that since I’d stayed the previous night without one. I feel like I was stolen from, and I won’t spend another dime there. Some people have no spirit of America, and it’s a night-and-day difference from those who do. There was no compassion, no Christ, no community. I always do something about people who abuse me, starting by taking back the delusional positivity I’ve kept by believing America could be like it is in great literature again. Next they’ll see how difficult I can be.
