Hampton Inn & Suites Lodi

I slept really well. The bed was comfortable, and the room was both clean and spacious. There were several good breakfast options, too. Getting here from my event in Lodi was awkward because of how the older streets are laid out, though reaching the freeway was easy.

There was plenty of parking, and my room had a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The lobby also keeps coffee, tea, and hot water available, and breakfast offered lots of choices for a 3-star hotel. Most of the staff were friendly, helpful, and professional. I had a good stay overall, but one interaction was disappointing. After breakfast my key card stopped working, and when I asked Tina at the front desk for a replacement, she wanted my ID, which I'd left in the room. I offered to show my booking confirmation on my phone, but she was sarcastic and dismissive and lectured me instead of helping. It felt unprofessional, especially compared with the rest of the staff. I emailed the front desk supervisor and still haven't received a reply. I hope management addresses what happened.

Getting here is easy, and there is plenty of parking. The desk staff were cheerful and helpful, and they respond when you let them know something has run out at breakfast, like eggs or creamer. The complimentary breakfast itself is pretty third-rate. Rooms are adequate, with more space if you choose the "premium" king. The furnishings are dated but still usable.

I left after the first night of a two-night stay. The night desk person was just as bad as the woman working Sunday morning. At check-in, she was rude and condescending when I asked whether an early arrival might be possible. It was Sunday and the place looked empty, but she said there was no way without even checking. She mentioned maybe 12, with no guarantee, in a very rude way. I said I'd check back, and she repeated, "NO GUARANTEES." When I returned at 12:30, she barely looked at me, then asked "scott?" even though she'd written it down beside her. She said the room had just been cleaned and handed over the key, with more condescending remarks I ignored. The only nice staff member was the morning front desk woman when I left. Whoever was on Sunday at 10:45 a.m. sucks and shouldn't work in hospitality.
