The Mulberry

The owner was understanding when we explained that the spray painting upstairs, directly above our reserved room, was too much for my sensitivity to smells. I’m very affected by odors, and while we did walk through the lobby and into the room, I couldn’t handle it. We’d already eaten and just wanted to relax after traveling all day, so going out and coming back later wasn’t a good fit. He gave us a full refund and suggested another place only a few blocks away. Thank you, Shawn, for being kind and helping make the trip more enjoyable despite the change. The place itself was extremely clean and well looked after, both in the lobby and in our room. Our king bed filled the small room, but there was still enough space to move around comfortably. It felt cozy, had everything the big chain hotels provide, and the bathroom and shower were a good size. We’d really been looking forward to staying there and like supporting small local businesses. Maybe the smell would have gone away after a while, but I have a hard time with smells. If we’re back in Logan, OH, we’d definitely stay here, as long as there isn’t painting going on. It’s clean and reasonably priced, and Shawn is wonderful.

The bed and sheets were really comfortable, and the location was very convenient. The neighborhood felt safe and was easy to walk around, including toward downtown. It’s a modern, self-serve hotel, so don’t expect housekeeping. Our room was clean when we arrived. Lee and another couple had booked through hotels.com, but no entry code was sent, so we had to call the manager to get codes for the building and room.

We were in town for our son's graduation, and prices in Athens on special weekends are outrageous. Wish we’d found this place sooner! The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, with a minimalist look I liked. It’s an easy 30-minute drive to and from OU.

I remember The Mulberry from when I was younger, and back then it was pretty run down. We stayed recently and the renovations made a huge difference. The suite was clean, comfortable, and updated, and you can see they’ve put a lot of work into improving the property. If you knew the old place, don’t judge it by that. We had a great stay and would definitely come back.
