We come to Los Alamos to visit family two or three times a year, usually for four or five days. The rooms, furniture, and finishes are clean and have held up well since the remodel three or four years ago. Staff are generally friendly and easy to find, and some have worked here for years. The weekday breakfast buffet is pretty good, especially the warm cinnamon rolls, and the woman running it does a great job keeping it stocked. The frustrating part is housekeeping. There isn't daily service, so guests have to request it mid-stay. Even then, because of staffing shortages, it happens that day only about 70% of the time. It's disappointing to come back expecting fresh towels, an emptied trash can, and a tidied room, then find everything untouched. Los Alamos is a weird town, and the labor market is even weirder, especially for housekeeping and food service, so I understand hiring and keeping staff is hard. I also know some long-term guests don't want housekeeping. We do, and for this category of hotel, the lack of service is disappointing.

There were obvious poop stains on the toilet in the first room, as shown in pic1. When we called the front desk, they told us, "Oh, we were fully booked yesterday." What? Were they expecting the room to be dirty? The room we switched to is in pic2. It was better, I guess. After seeing the first one, the two spots on the toilet seemed almost acceptable.

We could hear people chatting on the patio one night, but otherwise there wasn't much noise between rooms. The beds and rooms felt modern and comfortable, and the soap and lotions were nice. Staff were friendly, and there are free cookies in the lobby!!!! Getting checked in and parked was easy, and I felt safe leaving my locked bike in the lot overnight. The room was big enough to bring a bike inside, using either the stairs or elevator. It's a nice location a few minutes from downtown, with easy access to walking paths and trails.

The hotel was in great shape for a Holiday Inn, and we loved our visit. We especially liked the suite layout and the light blocking screens beneath the doors. There were welcome cookies at the front, and the property was well kept. The basement pool is small but nice to have. I thought the location was top notch. The photos are of sunrise from the parking lot and the canyon rim hike behind the hotel.

The bed was comfy, the room was great, and everything was clean. We enjoyed the good breakfast, and my kids had fun in the pool. There are enjoyable hiking trails nearby, and it's close to town. Beautiful location.
