The courtyard’s ‘tiki’ theme is a real problem for me, with all the stereotypical fake native ‘decor’. Unless that’s fixed, I won’t pick BB next time I’m in town. The staff were nice, and the place was very clean, though the cleaning product smell was too strong. I wasn’t given information about things to do nearby when I arrived. There is a bulletin board for hostel events, and I could have asked, but when I stayed at a BB ten years ago there were loads of pamphlets and information sheets. The “The Pickup” shuttle schedule should be posted, for example. The amenities were good, and I was lucky to have quiet, respectful dorm mates.

Karaoke nights are a fun way for travelers to get together, and the entertainment is great. Banana Bungalow in West Hollywood also has a terrific atmosphere and good amenities and services. Breakfast is free, parking is reasonably priced, and the location felt safe. Definitely worth a stay!

Such a laid-back, well-run place, and in one of LA’s best spots, maybe the best. It’s the most flexible hostel I’ve stayed at here. Being able to smoke a joint outside and join a party with free drinks here or at the other location is a nice finishing touch.

I arrived early in the morning after a long flight, but there was no early check-in, so I had to find another hotel for the first night. They wouldn’t refund me for that night. When I came back the next day to check in and complain, no one explained why. I said I’d leave a negative review, and then the receptionist canceled my second night too. I had to find somewhere else to stay and pay extra for taxis. I was shocked by how they treated guests.

The staff were nice, but three things I’d left on the bed went missing. The staff said they hadn’t found them, and the other guys in the dorm gave me odd vibes. In more than 30 hostels around the world while backpacking, this was the first time my things had gone missing. I checked out a few days early and moved to a private hotel room.
