Dunes Inn - Wilshire

The rooms have plenty of space, and I didn't hear the neighbors. Parking is free with the stay, though you'll need a car to reach local restaurants and things to do. The pool looked nice, but the water was freezing. A nice hotel for the price.

I live just a few houses away on Windsor BLvd, where the Dunes Inn sits at the corner of Wilshire Blvd, and I give it a 10/10. People I've spoken with while they were out taking photos of the Hollywood sign from Windsor Blvd have told me the staff are welcoming, the rooms are updated and clean, and the pool is nice. You get a great palm-lined view of the Hollywood sign walking up Windsow Blvd through Windsor Square. The neighborhood feels safe and clean for a walk during the day or at night. It's also a shiet walk to Larchmont Village, with Village Pizza, Italian food, sushi, Vietnamese, queries, ice cream, bake shops, and other stores. There's a great farmers market on Sunday, too. We recommend the Dunes Inn as a neighborhood hotel. Welcome, and please respect our neighborhood. Hope you enjoy it.

The free parking was easy, and the neighborhood felt safe. I was in town for a show at the Wiltern and found the Dunes Inn surprisingly good, especially for the affordable price. My room was clean and the location worked well. I didn't try the pool, though it looked nice.

We made it clear when booking that, for health reasons, we couldn't stay in a smoking or pet room. But the reception area was full of heavy cigarette smoke when we checked in. I told the receptionist, behind what looked like bulletproof glass, that the motel didn't seem to be non-smoking and that I'd expect a refund if we decided not to stay after seeing it. He said OK. We walked through to the room, which smelled of smoke and pets, so we came back to return the keys and ask for our money back. The receptionist said good luck getting the fee refunded, in a strangely snide way. We left to find somewhere else to stay. Now I'm out hundreds of dollars for what was meant to be a three-night visit.
