Hollywood Stars Inn - In Los Angeles (Hollywood)

The location is central, check-in at the property was easy, and there’s free parking in the courtyard. Those were the good parts of my one-night stay. The room wasn’t clean, with hair and dirt left by earlier guests. Noise was a bigger problem: the hotel has wooden floors, and sounds from other rooms carried through the night. I could hardly sleep, so I wouldn’t recommend staying here, even for a night. A few hours before check-in, we got an email offering online check-in. That seemed handy since we weren’t sure when we’d arrive, but apparently it would cost more than $50 extra. Why charge that?

For a reasonably priced two-star stay, this did the job. The room and bathroom were clean, though the linens seemed a little worn. The front desk guy was polite and clearly explained things at check-in. A security guard walked around at night and was somewhat rude, but it wasn’t a major issue. Hollywood Star Inn is in a very convenient area for tourists and the on-site parking worked fine for both days I left my car there. There were some homeless people nearby, as you see in many parts of California, but they didn’t bother anyone. I walked around with my wife at night and felt safe. If you’re expecting a five-star hotel, look elsewhere. For the price and location, it’s good value.

The room smelled awful, and everything but the bed was dirty. The air conditioner was freezing, but I couldn’t use it because it smelled so dusty and horrible. Sleeping there was really unpleasant. The location is the one good thing, close to the Walk of fame, Target and some nice places to eat, but that doesn’t make up for the room.

The rooms are fairly clean, and the staff are friendly and seem to care about the property. The area has a few rough people around, though it has gotten better. Given the location, it’s pretty good.
