Hotel Figueroa, Unbound Collection by Hyatt

The bed and linens were wonderful, the coffee machines were good, and service was great. The outdoor pool was charming, with nice furniture and fire tables. The hotel has a modern Spanish look while keeping some original character, though there isn’t really a lobby. Getting there and parking were convenient, but valet is the only option and costs $65 a day. We didn’t eat here. The rooms were small, with overwhelming outdoor noise, curtains that kept blowing in the wind, and a huge billboard outside that let in lots of light at night. Bathroom lighting was terrible. Great for adults, but I wouldn’t recommend it for families.

I was on the sixth floor and heard neither nearby guests nor street noise. The room was nice, with a cappuccino machine, mini fridge, very comfortable bed, and beautiful bathroom. Room service did a good job, though they could leave more cappuccino pods; some of us get up early and want more than two small cups. Both hotel restaurants serve great food. The hotel has a cool, slightly funky vibe, and I had a comfortable stay. It’s within walking distance of the Arena. There’s a public parking lot next door with a daily rate, or you can use valet for 62 bucks a day. Valet cars are kept behind a gate with cameras.

The location is stunning, and I can see why people choose it for events. We stayed for a weekend near downtown events, but our first room had no working AC. It got hotter as the night went on, the windows wouldn’t open, and there was no bathroom fan. At 1 am, I had to call the front desk to bring a fan. The next morning, I asked to move to a room with working AC. We had to pack, leave our suitcases at the hotel, find something to do, and return in the evening to learn where our new room was. That cost us half a day of our stay. No one apologized or offered to make it right with a credit, even though we paid full price. I looked online and found this seems to happen often, with some rooms lacking AC and guests shortchanged unless they complain enough. Part of the pool was closed for an event while we were there. They offered us the option to use a separate hotel’s pool, but who wants to walk through the streets in a wet swimsuit and towel? My partner is disabled and can’t simply make that walk to another unexpected location.

On my third stay at Hotel Figueroa, the team’s warm, attentive approach still stands out. They’re genuinely passionate about hospitality, and that consistency is why I keep returning. The hotel has character and a strong sense of place, with great energy and a relaxed, almost resort-like feel despite being in the middle of the city. Its central, lively downtown LA location works well for both business and leisure. It’s a hotel with soul, and I’ll definitely be back.
