The calm, minimalist design with Japanese inspiration made The Kodo Hotel feel like a quiet retreat amid the city. The lobby was peaceful, and the room was beautifully designed. The whole place was meticulously clean, almost like a spotless home away from home. I booked it last minute for a trip to LA and was stunned by how good the stay was. I can see why it’s popular. I loved the attention to detail and soothing look, and I’d recommend The Kodo to anyone who appreciates simple design and a peaceful escape. I can’t wait to return.

The rooms have an interesting look, but the lack of an elevator and help with bags made the stay off-putting. You have to climb almost two flights of stairs, and although they said a bellman could help, I waited 20 minutes and nobody came.

The bed was the standout for us, unbelievably comfortable. We’ve been trying to identify the exact mattress, so if anyone from the hotel sees this, could you share the brand? We emailed but haven’t heard back yet. We had a lovely stay and really liked the atmosphere.

This was the worst personal hotel experience I’ve had. Staff seemed judgmental and accused us without evidence. My husband and I were spending an evening away, and they kept my $250 security deposit despite there being no damage, mess, or contract violation. Their reason was a neighboring guest’s complaint that they could hear our TV, but they never asked us to turn it down, even though it was only 8:30 PM. Before leaving, I also found what looked like CCTV cameras inside the room, in the ceiling rafters. We have photos of them. It felt like the hotel was spying on guests and taking our money.

The room still had some Valentine’s decorations up, and the bed wasn’t comfortable, though it looked nice.
