The Hills Inn Eagle Rock - Near Old Town Pasadena

Booked at the last minute through hotels tonight and was pleasantly surprised by how nice the room was for a motel in the $100 range. It was affordable, comfortable, accessible, and, most importantly, clean. Target is only a couple of minutes away if you've forgotten travel essentials. Highly recommend for a trip to DTLA or Pasadena.

On my first stay at this cute motel, I had a lovely King Superior room with an amazing, comfortable bed and pillows. The place was clean, staff were friendly, and the town is cute, with great food and shops nearby on foot. I'd definitely come back. The only issue was the person in the adjoining room. I could hear them walking around, coughing, and watching TV, and they went in and out to smoke or vape, letting the door slam. It wasn't a ton of noise, but it kept happening through the night. I mentioned it to the front desk, and they kindly offered to move me.

We stayed five nights. The beds were comfy, we slept well, and we couldn't hear any noise. The room was a decent size and the staff were nice and helpful whenever we needed something. The location was pretty good, close to everything. The bathroom was really uncomfortable for a longer stay. It's matchbox tiny, so after a shower you have to step into the main room to get dressed, which isn't private if you're sharing with a friend or partner. Water runs onto the floor from the shower-tub, so put a towel down or you could slip. There isn't much storage, and there was a weird smell from the aircon or bathroom. We didn't mention it because we didn't want anyone coming into our room, so we just left it. The hotel charged my card instead of just holding the payment, which caused an international fee, then put the money back a few days later. Be aware of that. We'd stay again for one or two nights, but the bathroom and storage made it unsuitable for us for a longer visit. If those things don't bother you, it's good value.

The location was very convenient, close to Universal Studios and other places we wanted to visit, with quick food and milk tea options an easy walk away. Parking was free and readily available. The staff were pleasant and accommodating, and the second room we got was very clean. I enjoyed most of the trip. Our first room smelled musty, and there were a few candy wrappers between the bed and nightstand. We didn't mind tossing those, but when we found a bedbug crawling on a pillow as we were getting ready to sleep, we called the front desk. Staff responded very quickly and moved us to another room right away. We checked it three times for signs of bedbugs and luckily didn't find any.
