Comfort Inn Louisville Southwest

We picked this hotel for a girls’ trip and stayed in a suite. It was clean and smelled fresh, unlike places we’ve been on road trips that smelled of smoke or pot. The staff were very nice, handled our requests right away, and the towels folded into a flower were a lovely touch. We came to visit Waverly Hills, just a few minutes away. It’s kid-friendly, though parents should keep children from running and yelling in the halls. I’d recommend it for a romantic getaway, too. We didn’t have breakfast or use the pool, so I can’t speak to either.

The room was clean enough and the beds were comfortable, but there were plenty of problems. It smelled like an ashtray and no other room was available. We declined the offered air freshener. On the parking lot side, the thin sheets didn’t block the lights, so you may want something to cover the windows. The shower dripped all night, the microwave timer didn’t work, and parts of the alarm clock display were missing. If you’re in room 210, see if our crusty companion is still hiding on top of the bedside lamp. ;) The elevator was out, which didn’t bother us, but the Wi-Fi login didn’t work and the pool only holds four people. At arrival, a man on the front lawn seemed to be having a mental health or drug-related crisis. The man at the desk didn’t seem concerned, so we called emergency services about 20 minutes later, and the man appeared to be getting help. We also had to walk past days-old cigarette butts at the entrance. I know Kentucky is tobacco country, but come on, someone could sweep.

This was my second visit with my husband, and I noticed some really good changes. Everything was organized and very clean, and the hospitality was great. Rosa at reception treated me very well. I highly recommend this hotel.

The location is convenient, with several restaurants nearby and Churchill Downs close by. The hotel looked well kept, the room appeared clean, and the free breakfast had a good, typical selection. Still, this was the worst of the four hotels we stayed at on our road trip. Getting out is a real hassle. It’s on a busy street with no access road, and you can only turn right, so leaving means making dangerous U-turns. We booked through Expedia a few hours before arriving. The clerk found the reservation quickly, but charged my card the full room price instead of just the damage deposit, even though I’d already paid. He admitted the error but said he couldn’t refund it until the manager came the next day. It took two days of phone calls to sort out. Then I took a folded bath towel from the bathroom counter and clumps of hair clippings fell into the sink. The towel was full of them. The front desk just apologized, and although I asked for the manager to call the next day, nobody did. We got the impression they didn’t care, and wouldn’t recommend staying here.
