Fern Valley Hotel and Conference Center

The room was very clean, the shower had great water pressure, and we liked the modern orange and brown decor. The rest of the stay was a mess. We arrived to check in at 3:35, 35 minutes after check-in was supposed to be available, and there were no clean rooms. The only person at the desk kept having to stop helping me to answer the ringing phone, at least six times. Four other groups were waiting, too, and one caller said their room hadn’t even been cleaned after they checked in. After waiting 20 minutes, we learned they had none of the king jacuzzi smoking rooms we’d booked. The desk clerk called her manager, and another 20 minutes later we got a king non-smoking jacuzzi room instead. That was okay, but no one apologized or offered a discount for the wait or room change. The clerk was friendly, but didn’t seem well trained. Later, I asked for change for the vending machine and another desk clerk was rude, saying, “we don’t make change.” In the morning, I needed two extra towels, but we had to go to the desk to get them. They only had one and told me, “that’s all you can have.” It was a very odd stay. At least we only paid $130 for the room.

After checking in, I found the hallways hot and dirty, with old, worn carpet. The carpet in my room hadn’t been cleaned either, and there was food on the floor. Then, while I was sitting there deciding what to do, a man I didn’t recognize opened the door and tried to walk in. He wasn’t wearing a hotel uniform. I went straight to the front desk and canceled my reservation. The outside looked pitiful, too. Stay here only if you’re looking for the cheapest room you can find. Otherwise, I’m sure you’ll be disappointed.

We booked this hotel for our family reunion from July 31 through 08/02/2015. We had told relatives the hotel had the amenities shown in its brochure, then learned it was having problems and didn’t have those amenities. Some family booked elsewhere, some switched rooms, and others checked out and found another place. Management and staff were very helpful and accommodating overall. They fixed the hall bathroom right away after someone stopped it up. The air conditioning worked well in the lobby and in the rooms we booked, and the two suites opened into the hospitality room, giving us a place to gather and celebrate as a family. At this point, it’s a place to sleep, have a continental breakfast, and head out for local activities. Louisville has plenty of hotels for a vacation stay or if you’re willing to pay more.

We checked out within five minutes. After booking online, we found the outside looked pitiful, then had to park in a vacant lot on the other side and enter through a side door. The hallway walls and ceiling had bugs and cobwebs. A foul mold smell got stronger as we went through another door, and it was so dark we could barely see. My fiancé, his family, and I all have severe asthma, and my fiancé and I started having breathing problems. I had an asthma attack and needed my inhaler before we could leave. We packed up and checked out. The online listing and the actual place were a total joke. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, especially people with asthma or other breathing problems. Worst hotel on earth!
