Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Cincinnati NE/Mason

The room key quit working, leaving us locked out for more than 45 minutes while we waited for help. Breakfast was meant to be included, but they ran out of food completely. The room itself was extremely dirty and didn’t seem properly cleaned, and the hotel’s condition was disappointing from the moment we arrived. This was one of my worst hotel stays. It felt disorganized, badly managed, and uncomfortable. I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere if you want a clean room and a stress-free stay at Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Cincinnati NE/Mason.

The maintenance guy was the best, and staff were the only good thing about this hotel. The hall and stair carpets were filthy, and the elevator didn’t work. In the room, the carpet and floors hadn’t been swept, with crumbs and trash left behind. Don’t move the furniture unless you want to see what’s underneath or behind it. I found a half-eaten sandwich under the trash bag in the bin. The can itself was filthy and smelled terrible. I bought disinfecting wipes to clean everything. I’d already paid, so I stayed, but I’ll never come back.

I showed up with a confirmed reservation, after calling ahead to make sure everything was set, and was told the hotel had sold out of rooms. The man at the counter was rude and dismissive when I explained I’d driven all that way, with no customer service skills at all. He said he was the owner. When I brought up the wasted trip and high travel costs, he coldly asked, “Okay, what am I supposed to do about that?” I wouldn’t recommend this place to a roach. Avoid it at all costs.

The room had a stove, fridge/freezer, sink, and a good bathroom, which is the only reason I’m giving this place a star. Be aware of your surroundings. A neighbor supposedly heard banging and screaming, and staff came up and told us to leave, though we weren’t the ones yelling or banging. There are rooms all around, but staff believed the neighbor over us because they’d supposedly been here longer. They made us leave before we could even explain that we hadn’t done anything wrong. It was a really fishy situation, so be cautious.
