Hillside

We stayed because this is the closest motel to Faithbrooke Barn, where I was in town for a wedding, and it’s about 10 min from town. The room was clean and the bed otherwise very comfy, but the fitted sheet kept slipping off. Shower pressure wasn’t great, though the water was hot. The pool isn’t really operating: it’s marked “open,” but has a huge hole in the side, not much water, and lots of bugs. It was fine for our trip, but at that price I probably wouldn’t book again.

We came to see the caverns and needed somewhere family friendly. This place was just right, with two rooms and two queens, plenty of space for the kids, and everything nicely updated. The staff I spoke with were all friendly and helpful. It’s no frills, but has a nice ice machine and a decent pool. I’d definitely come back.

Hillside Hotel in Luray, Va. has old-time rustic character outside, which I liked, while the inside is completely renovated, with beautiful wooden floors, very clean rooms, and an excellent mountain view. The listing was 100% accurate, there were no surprises, and Hillside quoted a price and stuck to it. That’s how good business should be, especially compared with VRBO cabins with fictional or fluctuating prices and fees. Hospitality at its best from the staff. SAMATHA, THE MANAGER, went out of her way to meet me at the hotel after hours in winter. The hotel shortens office hours then, which is smart for the owner and staff since the staff work from home and service isn’t lost. I really can’t ask for much more.

A newly renovated, very clean little place with friendly staff and a nice price. I’d recommend it 100% over the nearby chain hotels.
