My truck's fan had gone through the radiator, and I was trying to fix it quickly. The owner came out and said it was private property. I was respectful and asked if I could keep the truck there a little longer to work on it, but he threatened to call the police.

There's a sweet older woman at the desk who's new to Choice and handles walk-ins well. Be ready to pay the full rack rate, though. I had arranged a Choice points stay, but after I was checked in as a regular walk-in, I had to get Choice to refund the points. I think it may have been an honest mistake. It could also have been the property manager changing a reservation that doesn't use points because the hotel gets very little from Choice and tries to avoid those bookings. If that's what happened, it would be fraud.

After riding the Katy trail, we stopped at this Ecolodge on our way back to Austin, Texas, and got the key to #170. The room smelled awful, like drugs had been used there for a century, not just like smoke. The rusty, dirty air unit couldn't be turned on. There were bugs on the bathroom floor and squashed bugs on the bed sheets. I have very mild asthma and couldn't breathe in there.

The water pressure was the one good thing. The towels were rough and too small, and the floor never seemed to get cleaned properly. Flies and cockroaches were all over the room, it smelled like a pigsty, and I worried about bed bugs, so I couldn't get comfortable on the bed. The whole stay was deeply unpleasant. It put me off considering Eco lodges for a place to stay again.
