Makani A Kai

We stayed in unit A4 for a week, and turtles were surfing on the reef just out front every day. The condo’s central position made it easy to get to either side of Maui. It also had walkout access to a private lounge with a great view of the ocean and Haleakala. One of the most amazing views I’ve ever seen.

We had to change our booking just five days before landing on the island, and this place turned out to be a wonderful find. It was quiet and relaxing, with easy beach access, great snorkeling, and very few people around. We saw turtles every day, sunrises over Haleakala, and sunsets toward West Maui. So much to love here!

The beach access is wonderful, and this would be a great spot if all you want is to unwind by the water. The area itself is quaint, but what’s provided could be better. The sliding patio door was terribly outdated and hard to open, and the bathroom soap was diluted until it was unusable. We were told the unit sleeps six, but the sofa bed came with no pillows or sheets and had a terrible mattress. Nearby, there’s the beach, the aquarium, and a small family fun center. For shopping or sightseeing, expect a decent drive.

The location is handy for getting around the island and keeps you away from Kihei traffic. Makani A Kai is a sweet little condo community with tropical gardens. The public park next door sometimes gets noisy at any hour. Our space was safe and pleasant, and the pool offered a nice break from the surf. The waves make for a lovely beach setting, snorkeling from shore is decent, and turtles swim around each evening.
