Holiday Inn Express & Suites Macclenny by IHG

I've never stayed in a room that felt cleaner. But I'm giving only 3 stars because this location got rid of the waffle makers. Morning waffles are the best part of a hotel, and you took them away from us. :’(

The bed was fine, and I slept well without hearing interstate traffic. The hotel is new and in a good spot, though the new-carpet smell in the rooms and halls may bother anyone sensitive to it. The doors slam incredibly loudly in the morning, so don't expect to sleep late without earplugs. I was charged about $120 for a room when most nearby places are around $70, and the breakfast made that price feel especially disappointing. The eggs were powdery and tasteless, the bacon nearly see-through, the coffee extremely weak, and they had no milk at all. It was one of the worst breakfasts I've had at a nice hotel. They also put a $100 incidental hold on my card and said it would clear in 24 hours. It's been three days and I'm still waiting. I hate that. Think of the interest they must earn on thousands of customers' $100 holds sitting for 3, 4, or 5 days.

The rooms are cozy and clean, and the staff were polite and efficient. They accommodated my early arrival and late departure, as long as I followed their instructions. The breakfast spread is nice, with sausage, scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, toast, yogurt, fruit, pancakes, pastries, mini muffins, biscuits, juice, water, and coffee. The sausage gravy and potatoes were very bland to me. Soap and shampoo come in wall-mounted bathroom bottles. There's also a pool, a small gym, and a few washers and dryers.

The complimentary breakfast was the best I can remember at this kind of hotel, with fresh pancakes, eggs, sausage and more. Everything was self-serve but clean, fresh, and well stocked, and the coffee was great. The staff were friendly too. We stopped at Holiday Inn Express & Suites MacClenny, FL during a road trip and found a safe, quiet place with a great room. It was clean and stylish, with a comfortable bed, a nice bathroom and shower, and plenty of places to plug in devices. It's not a resort, just a reasonably priced, clean stay with great value.
