I’ve stayed here about five times over the last decade, but the last two years have been a decline. The carpet turned my feet black, the shower was starting to mold, and the toilet seat was coming loose and needed replacing. I watched the manager and cleaning lady work one morning. I saw towels being brought in, but don’t think they carried in fresh sheets for rooms guests had left. The AC units need attention too. I took the cover off the one in my room and found about a quarter inch of dust on the filter, with dust balls where the cold air comes out. They clearly don’t have a regular cleaning schedule for them. It all needs a thorough clean, and I probably won’t return unless the place gets cleaned up.

I came here because I was desperate, and was surprised to see so many cars when I pulled in around 2 a.m. The room didn’t smell, but it didn’t feel clean. Half the lights were out, and the working ones had dead bugs inside. A centipede came out in the bathroom and blended into the carpet so well I couldn’t leave it alone. The beds were gross. I had a sleeping bag with me, which meant I didn’t have to get into the sheets and bedspread. I won’t be back. Spend more for peace of mind, or sleep in your car.

The first room smelled musty and had filthy carpets. After we complained, they moved us, but there was a pile of ants in the bathroom. We took pictures and complained again, and all they offered was another room change. Don’t go there.

We checked in around 11 p.m. Friday. The lobby staff had no shoes on and weren’t sure which room was ours at first. The room was small, as expected, but the walls looked stained and dingy. The bathtub had two spiders, a layer of dirt, and a shower curtain stained orange at the bottom. The top towel had orange splatters, though the towels and shampoo were fresh. Water sprayed from three spots on the faucet, the bathroom floor was sticky, and the lamp and alarm clock weren’t plugged in. There was no phone. I went to the lobby for the WiFi password, “internet.” One staff member was tossing tourist pamphlets around, while another warned me the connection was weak and I might need to connect in the lobby before walking back. The sheets and blankets didn’t look reassuring, so we put extra sheets over the mattress pad, used two blankets, and slept in our clothes. With the lights off, we saw a burned hole in the curtains. The AC smelled like mildew, but the room was too hot in mid-August to turn it off, and the smell lasted all night. The mattress was stiff and creaked whenever we moved. Loud engines right outside made it hard to sleep, and by morning the main light bulb had burned out. There was no breakfast in the lobby, and no one had told us when it would be served. It appeared there wasn’t any. The lobby was unattended, with checkout keys left on the desk. Eventually attendants came out of the back looking disheveled, along with two overnight guests. The pool didn’t look like the pictures. We’d already lowered our expectations because it was a budget motel and a last-minute booking, but Capri Motel fell below even those. Wouldn’t recommend it. It was really cheap, and we could walk to downtown. The woman at the desk was friendly and helpful, with coupons and tips for saving money. Our room was cute and had AC and a TV, and we could park right outside. There was also a grill available for cooking. I’d recommend it for a weekend away if you’re trying to keep room costs down.
