The soups were both creamy, so not especially healthy, but they tasted good. Our waitress was friendly and checked on us just the right amount. The room looked recently updated and clean, although I didn't care for seeing a wash bucket and cloth on a table nearby. We'd eaten the Grand Hotel buffet for lunch and stopped in later for something light. We chose the $8.99 soup and salad bar after seeing the $16.99 buffet with fried food, mystery gravy, gray canned green beans, and shriveled corn. The salad bar seemed fresh but offered very few toppings: lettuce, green and black olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, onions, banana and jalapeño peppers, and beets. I expected things like broccoli, bacon crumbles, beans, mushrooms, or hard-boiled eggs too.
For a one-night stop on the way, it worked out well. The beds were comfortably firm, the rooms were clean, and the decor was nice. Front rooms have a good lake view. You can tell it's an older hotel that's been updated, though there are still holes in the walls and some old fixtures. The shower was hard to adjust, switching between very hot and very cold, and the room itself was pretty bare bones with two beds, a nightstand, and an entertainment center.
The room renovations were great. Ours was spacious, the bed was really comfortable, and it warmed up fast. The restaurant had a limited menu because it was off season, but the food was still amazing. It arrived hot, and the service was quick and friendly. Kevin, the manager, deserves a big shout out. He was so friendly and attentive, and really seemed to care about guests at the Inn. Thank you, Kevin and Tony Boom, for such a wonderful stay. You both have done a great job. I can't wait to come back. This place is a hidden gem.
We drove more than three hours to meet my husband's father, who had been diagnosed with cancer, and hoped to have a nice meal with him. Instead, we waited over an hour for breakfast, even though we were the only guests there. When food finally came, only some of us got it, and it was cold or undercooked. We received just one coffee refill during the wait. The manager was rude when we asked to speak with him. He yelled and blamed us for the staff being unprepared to serve our meals and coffee. The service and management were horrible. It was a terrible place and experience.
The server was helpful and friendly, but the meal was disappointing. We'd read good things about the new BBQ menu, so my husband got a half slab of ribs and I ordered baked mac and cheese with brisket. His ribs looked extremely dry and the cole slaw listed with them never arrived. My brisket was mostly fat, and the mac and cheese looked like Kraft dinner instead of homemade baked mac and cheese. The food wasn't bad, just mediocre and not what the menu described or what we expected. It took nearly an hour to get our order, and by then it was too late to leave and start over elsewhere, so we ate it. When we mentioned the problems, the waiter said the cook was having a bad night. I understand that happens, but no discount was offered. It seems unfair to pay the same price for a below-average meal that someone else might get when the chef has a good night. We probably won't return.
