Comfort Inn Lakeside

The staff made us feel like we were bothering them, and the room wasn’t clean. After three nights, there was dust all over the moldings, dirty bedding, and hair in the tub, on the toilet, and on the floor. The heating and AC unit was so dusty that we slept with the balcony door open. Breakfast was just okay, with scrambled eggs, toast, and canned fruit, and there was no decaf coffee. I’ve stayed at cheaper places with cleaner rooms and friendlier staff. I wouldn’t stay here or recommend it.

I’m on the road for work around 50 times a year and almost always book Choice properties. This was at least my second stay here, and it’s still pretty mediocre. The room was mostly clean, but one bed had dirty sheets and the other wasn’t made properly either. The internet was slow and kept dropping, which is especially frustrating when I need it for work. I’ve had much better stays at Choice hotels. This place needs updating, and I doubt it’ll happen since the same family owns much of the town and its restaurants. Without the points, I wouldn’t choose this hotel or the other Choice places in Mackinaw City. St Ignace hotels are generally better.

The building needs a serious cleaning. There was algae and growth all over the brick, and the breakfast room windows were filthy along the bottom. I only went to breakfast once. We stayed three days, and the housekeeping was basically nonexistent. They took our used towels on the first day and didn’t replace them, left the bed unmade, and didn’t sweep, clear the trash, bring coffee packets, or come back for the other dirty towels. Dust on the dressers and dirt along the room edges made it obvious how little was being done. Then, the day after my payment went through, someone tried to use my card. Luckily it was declined. I hadn’t used that card anywhere else in over a year, only at this hotel. I’ll never go back.

The lakefront rooms are one long room, with a beautiful view of Lake Huron and the beach. The room is dated and gets dark with the drapes closed, but I thought the view made up for it. It’s a decent place if you mainly need somewhere to sleep. The staff were fine, and breakfast on the third floor seemed to be shared with the hotel next door. It was just okay. Show your room key at the advertised spots to get local discounts.
