Knights Inn Mackinaw City

Dated rooms, but for the price it was a good stay. The alarm clock didn’t work, though our phones made that a minor inconvenience. The front desk guy was really sweet and knowledgeable, and adding another day was no problem. They also sell Star Line ferry tickets for $30, with the ferry about a mile away. Good overall.

The bedding was very clean and there were no bugs, which matters most to me. I always wear shoes in hotels and use shower shoes. The place is older and could use updates, especially the carpet and bathtubs, but most things were clean. We stayed two nights and used two different rooms during our trip up north. The staff were extremely kind and showed us the rooms before we booked so I could feel comfortable about their cleanliness. I’d stay again for a budget option. The location made it easy to drive to everything. I’d been skeptical because of what I’d assumed beforehand, but was pleasantly surprised.

We got there at 4:00 PM, but nobody was in the lobby to check us in. We were told the rooms wouldn’t be ready until 5:00 and that someone would call. No call came until about 5:30. After a long drive, we’d given up and found somewhere else to stay. The booking was nonrefundable according to the website. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It seems they didn’t have enough staff to get the rooms cleaned. As we drove away, we saw four people who looked like they were cleaning one room, or were too busy talking.

After a long drive, we arrived late at night hoping to sleep before spending the rest of our time in the area on Mackinaw Island. We knew Knights Inn was a budget hotel and didn’t expect anything fancy. From the reviews, I thought the smell and dated look would be the main problems. Then we pulled back the sheets and found actual poop on the bed, not just a stain. The front desk was closed, so I called the number on the website. The woman hung up on my first call. I kept trying until she answered and I explained we needed clean sheets. She came to the room without any and offered to move us. We said we didn’t think the sheets were being changed, and even in another room we’d need clean ones to change ourselves. She didn’t seem to have any. Fortunately, she called her sister hotel and arranged for us to stay there instead. That place was pretty gross too, but at least there was no poop in the bed. I’ve never been so horrified by a hotel. Don’t stay at this Knights Inn Hotel unless you want to be traumatized.
