Super 8 Macknaw City/Beachfront Area

It was clean, but the place is so dated that it wasn't worth the price. The flooring was peeling, the walls were stained, and spiders were hanging from the ceiling. We expected more than a granola bar when the hotel listing mentioned breakfast. The room was quoted at 120, then 130, then 144.

The staff denied that I'd complained, even though I called about the patio door and recorded what happened. The front desk woman, who was the manager, spoke to me rudely. When she sent a man with a backpack to fix the door, he put it back on without speaking to me, then stormed out as if I were a nuisance. The door had fallen off its track, and I was worried I'd be charged for it. Now Super 8 says it contacted the hotel, but the hotel claims I never complained, including about the door. I just want customer service, not to be connected to the hotel to argue. The representative tried to transfer me and the call dropped. I paid over $700 for two nights, and felt stuck because we had no other option. I wouldn't have stayed otherwise. There were cobwebs and spider eggs everywhere, black mold in the bathroom, and sticky, film covered floors. The patio boards were rotting, so I didn't feel safe letting my daughter or myself step outside. The parking lot flooded, with puddles too large to walk through. There wasn't even a phone in the room, only a power strip and a dirty alarm clock on the nightstand. Looking at Expedia and other review sites, I saw other guests' photos of the black rot in the bathroom. I don't know how this place can be rented out. Avoid it. It feels like a scam, and the property isn't maintained.

The beach was lovely, with great sand, chairs, and firepits. Paying for the beachfront view and balcony felt worthwhile. The rooms are run down, though some remodeling has made them okay to stay in. We had three beds, which helped with five women, but the bathroom was a squeeze. The laminate floor brought in a lot of sand, so bring a towel or rug.

The location was the only convenient part, and I've stayed in several hotels around here. This was the worst. The carpets felt sticky, the sheets were stained, and there were so many cobwebs outside that you kept walking into them. The pool area was so dirty you couldn't even sit on the deck. Housekeeping apparently doesn't clean between guests. We left drinks in the fridge overnight for the next day and they froze. The online listing promised a continental breakfast, which sounded handy for our three kids and two adults, but all we got was a granola bar. We'll never stay here again.
