Macomb Inn

We left without a refund and went somewhere else. The owners refused when we asked for our money back, and the Health Dept is getting a call. The refrigerator was dirty, with hair in it, the chair had stains, and there was no toilet paper. TV reception was awful; they blamed DishNetwork, but the channels were analog antenna only. The place looked abandoned, like a horror movie motel. I’d give it zero stars if I could. They should be ashamed.

Our night was quiet, though a lot of light came in under the door. The heater/AC thermostat wasn’t working, but staff quickly moved us to another room. It hadn’t been updated, but it was okay. Breakfast was a bit cold unless you made a waffle, and the coffee wasn’t great.

I was happy with this motel for the price, and I’d stay again if it continues to be maintained. It looks questionable from the outside and is older, but the room was newly painted and clean. Most rooms have a flat-screen TV with 50 satellite channels, including all the good ones. I smoke, so being able to get a smoking room mattered to me. I also needed to plug my truck’s warmer into an electric outlet, and parking right in front of the room made that easy. It suited my needs well.

I left without a refund after the staff accused me of damaging a TV I hadn’t broken and said they’d call the police if I didn’t pay. When I checked in, I later did some shopping and found the television broken when I returned to the room. I called the front desk just to let them know, since I didn’t need a replacement. They came up and blamed me or my kids. The screen looked like it had been hit hard, which I doubt a 3 and an 8 year old could do in five minutes. I was furious: why would I have reported it if I’d broken it? They threatened to call the police, so I told them to go ahead. A few minutes later staff came to photograph the TV. When I asked if they’d called the police, they said no, so I said I would. An officer came, heard what happened, and said the most they could do was file a civil suit, which they didn’t think was likely. I’d only unpacked my phone, so I packed up quickly, returned the key, and asked for a refund. They said they had no refund policy, so I left and told them to keep the money. I then called my credit card company to dispute the charge and found out they’d also charged me for the TV. The place had peeling paint, a funny smell, and an ant walking by the broken set. For ten dollars more, I got a room at Super 8 down the road. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend Macomb Inn.
