Executive Pennyrile Inn

The booking agency handled this badly. One agent quoted me a price, then we got disconnected. When I called back, another agent quoted $100 more and hung up when I explained the difference. That’s no way to do business. I travel for a large company as a nurse, and I’ll tell them not to send people here. They’ve lost 13 weeks of company-paid business.

I’d seen mixed reviews, but we had an emergency and this was the closest place to where we needed to be off the interstate. The staff made us feel like a bother. I’d booked a king smoking room, though I’m pretty sure we got nonsmoking; that wasn’t a big deal since my husband vapes and went outside anyway. The room had a puddle on the floor, too few linens for two people, spots on the walls, and mold on the ceiling. There was no sink soap or shampoo, but I had brought my own. We were out all the next day, and the room wasn’t touched or cleaned. When I asked the desk for linens, the man asked me to bring the old ones up, then told me to forget it and wait until morning. My husband found roaches in the bathroom when he showered on checkout day. I stripped the bed as I do at every stay and found mold spots and stains all over the mattress cover. The internet code gave us terrible service, and the TV remote didn’t work, so we watched one channel rather than keep trying. The nearby gas station with a Subway was shut down because of water problems, including its bathrooms, showers, coffee, and fountain drinks. The little store area at the hotel had only a few things. I wouldn’t stay again. Lesson learned.

The only thing going for this place is its location. Our room had no toilet paper, leftover food in the refrigerator, no Wi-Fi, and no ashtray, even though it was a smoking room. There wasn’t anyone at the desk when I went to check out. When the man finally showed up, he argued that we owed for the room even though I’d paid through the app, and wouldn’t let us leave until we paid again. I showed him several things after taking a shower to prove I’d already paid, but he kept arguing. He eventually refunded me, and that was all. This place should be investigated or shut down. I’ll never stay here again.

We booked through Hotel.com, but when we arrived 20 minutes later, the desk clerk wouldn’t honor it and told us to cancel and pay at the desk. Happy Stay Inn had already charged my card. The online pictures looked nothing like the run-down inn we found. We spent time on the Hotel.com site, and they called the inn; we eventually got our refund. The inn said there were no rooms available, which was why they wanted us to cancel. A terrible start to vacation, but luckily we got our money back and found another hotel for the night. I would not recommend this inn.
