Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park

The restaurant is a great stop after a long hike. I like their catfish dinner, fried green tomatoes, and fried pickle spears. It’s a good area for hiking, with great views that make the walks more enjoyable. I didn’t really assess the rooms, though the cabins look to be in good shape, and the lake seems good for fishing.

There’s a lot to do here, more than you can fit into one visit. The swimming area is warm, clean, and shallow enough that you don’t have to worry too much about little ones getting in over their heads. The water is dyed blue to manage algae and improve its appearance. You’ll also find miles of hiking trails, pretty waterfalls, cabins to rent, a place to get food, and pavilions for picnics and gatherings. Wildlife is everywhere, and the scenery is gorgeous, so take plenty of photos. Just remember to check for ticks now and then.

A pleasant little state park with a wonderful staff. The cottages were clean and nice, though the beds weren’t very comfortable. I enjoyed the tasty food, and the dining staff were attentive. There’s a scenic trail around the lake. You can do nighttime photography, but keep in mind the resort gives off quite a bit of light.

The park is beautifully kept and has plenty to do. Our clean, efficient cabin had everything we needed, and it was close to trails. The lodge was just a short drive away.
