Hampton Inn & Suites Mahwah

I’ve stayed here over the past year while attending automotive manufacturing training. It’s handy for a road trip, right off the highway, with a gas station and charging station next door. The staff have always been great, even when I just ask for a bottle of water. Breakfast is usually good if you’re eating healthy, with high protein options.

We’ve stayed here a couple of times, but this visit was loud. From our room, we could hear doors slamming, kids yelling, and heavy footsteps overhead. There was a steady drip from the upstairs bathroom into something metal inside the wall that kept us awake. With a leak there before and what looked like a bad patch job, I think it may soon leak again in the bathroom. I don’t know what was going on in the back parking lot, but some exchanges between people in cars looked sketchy, and I saw things being passed around. There aren’t outside cameras, so anything could be happening back there. The lot is also a pass through for the gas station, so watch out for speeding cars.

The room was amazing, and the food was great too. I arrived at night and chose this hotel instead of parking at the Pilot next door, since cargo vans aren’t always allowed there and I didn’t want the hassle. Walking in, I landed in what felt like comedy hour. Chris and Shawn make a hilarious work duo, and they were super helpful, so I had a fun time. In the morning, Luana and Matthew helped me with everything I needed. Matthew gave me all their names, which I appreciated because they’d done such a good job. I was grateful for them.

The room was filthy: dirt covered the chairs, mildew filled the bathroom, and the bed was uncomfortable. It seemed clear the hotel hadn’t been renovated. Breakfast was just okay, though the convenience store beside the parking lot was awesome. Two men at the desk were extremely nice, but another was horrible. I’d booked a suite and he wouldn’t honor it until I called corporate. I also saw him be very rude to a woman, who thankfully called him out. I wish I’d gotten his name. I love staying at Hampton properties, but after this I don’t think I’ll return. Hilton wants me to call a corporate number, and I don’t think that will do anything.
