Four Winds Country Motel

We were exhausted by 3 a.m. and stayed anyway, though it was a restless night. In room 110, the bed smelled like animal urine. Room 108 had its windows open and smelled of smoke, which triggered my allergy and meant I had to take medication. We needed a smoke-free room, but someone had clearly smoked there. The heat was switched on but never started, and the heater smelled. The toilet seat was dirty and the floor sticky. We worried about what else we might find before morning. At least these beds didn't smell and had mattress covers. Hopefully breakfast is good...

We stayed two nights in rooms up on the hill and found them very clean and cozy. The staff were kind, conscientious, diligent, and quick to respond. For the price, the amenities and value exceeded what we expected. It's an affordable, comfortable way to visit an expensive part of Vermont. We look forward to coming back to Four Winds.

The motel itself was fairly clean, with no bugs, though the showerhead was broken. I believe an older couple runs the place. The man was kind, and the office has a quirky feel. The woman came into the kitchen and yelled at us for having the included continental breakfast, then asked our room number. I'm pretty sure she profiled us. She indignantly took away the food and said breakfast ended at 9 a.m., though I couldn't find that posted anywhere. It was the worst experience we had in the area. Not nice.

I only stayed one night and wished I could have stayed longer. The room was large, spotless, and had a very comfortable bed and hot water. There was even a card table in the closet for games. It was an unexpectedly delightful stay, one of the best rooms I've had, including more expensive ones. Definitely recommend!
