Point Arena Lighthouse

The view from the top is impressive too, if you can see straight and catch your breath after the climb. Those 140 steps make getting to the top of the lighthouse the most impressive part of the visit.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this visit was spectacular. We took the tour and enjoyed watching for whales. Everyone was welcoming, and I especially enjoyed talking with Cadence, who knew a lot about the lighthouse and the stock in the gift store. She carefully wrapped all our fragile items and treated us like friends, not just visitors passing through. We’ll definitely be back soon, and hope to stay in the lodging units next time.

You can drive right up to the lighthouse, so there’s no long walk to get in. It’s the tallest lighthouse on the west coast, and for $10 you can climb the long staircase to the top. The views are absolutely beautiful. The wind was really strong when I visited, and I could feel it vibrating through the walls once I was inside.

We only spent a little time here, but it was unforgettable. The tiny shop, the tall lighthouse, and the guide’s well-told history all came together for a perfect moment. We also got to have a picnic despite the wind, which gave us another reason to remember the visit.
