Hampton Inn and Suites Mansfield South

We stopped here on the way to New York and again on our return. It’s handy to the interstate, and the room was huge and very clean. Breakfast was great, with waffles, cereal, oatmeal and toppings, eggs, sausage, toast, bagels, muffins, and fruit. Since it was Valentine’s weekend, they also had Red Velvet Cake waffle batter with whipped cream and sprinkles. A festive touch.

Breakfast was fantastic for a continental setup, with omelets, French toast, big sausage patties, cereal, fruit, and waffles you make yourself. I left in a better mood than when I went down. The staff were upbeat and friendly, especially Angie and Verna, whose positive energy was contagious. The beds were comfortable, with four soft, plush pillows each. There was complimentary coffee in the room, and I could borrow a phone charger after accidentally leaving mine at home. The hotel was very clean and comfortable, and definitely worth staying at.

I feel more comfortable in unfamiliar cities when I know where I’m staying, and this pet-friendly hotel is right across from a state-police building. That helped me feel especially at ease taking my pup out at night. Staff at the desk, breakfast, and housekeeping were all pleasant and easy to talk with, without making conversation feel forced. Our room was quiet, odor-free, clean, and well maintained. The tub looked gently used but wasn’t dirty, and the amenities were kept up nicely. Breakfast offered cereal, biscuits, fruit, eggs and other protein, gravy, bagels and bakery items, plus large and mini waffle makers with vanilla and churro batter. There were three kinds of coffee, hot tea, and other drinks.

The construction affected pretty much the whole stay, making the hotel less comfortable and convenient. My bed was uncomfortable enough that my back was still sore a week later. Breakfast had been moved to the conference room, and coffee was outside the elevators, which felt awkward. At check-in, nobody was at the desk for about five minutes. Once someone arrived, power tools were running constantly about ten feet away, so it was hard to hear the receptionist and the start felt chaotic. I know renovations have to happen sometimes, but the noise, disrupted layout, and discomfort were well below what I expect from a Hampton Inn.
