This wasn’t the usual La Quinta standard I’m used to as a Wyndham Platinum member who stays at La Quinta often. I was there for 30 minutes and nobody from food service checked on things, even during Christmas week. The buffet had plenty of food, but the warmers were left open to dust and bacteria, and the juice machines were switched off. The water fountains weren’t refrigerated either, so the water was tepid, like tap water. When I arrived, water to the whole building was off for hours. The ice machines throughout the hotel were dry, switched off, and not working; there was no offer of ice, so getting cold drinking water meant paying for it. The hospitality staff gave no feedback, which was a real disappointment. Cheap, cheap, cheap. I travel on a voucher and can stay wherever I want. If I’d known about the water and ice, I wouldn’t have stayed.
The room wasn’t usable for us. There was vomit in the bathtub, the bathroom smelled so bad my boyfriend couldn’t use it, and I couldn’t shower. We’d arrived late and exhausted, so we shut the door and went to sleep. We had to leave early for my son’s birthday at a motocross track, with no time to ask the desk for another room. I called later to explain. The front desk was rude and dismissive, blamed me for not reporting it sooner, and showed no concern or accountability. After I said I was upset with how it was handled, they told me I’d been put on a Do Not Rent list. That felt completely unprofessional and inappropriate. Priceline offered a 50% refund, which didn’t seem adequate for a room that was unsanitary and unusable. I’m upset about a stay that fell short of basic cleanliness and service. I know it was rushed, but that doesn’t excuse the dirty room or how we were treated afterward. I wouldn’t recommend this location, and I’m extremely disappointed.
I booked this hotel for visiting family, but canceled the reservation as soon as we walked in. The place smelled of dirt and mildew, with other odors seemingly covered up, and spider webs were visible on the walls. I’ve traveled in many countries and stayed in many hotels; most overseas are clean and well maintained, though not all. In my experience traveling around the US, many franchise hotels have low standards. This place is an example of what I see as a broader problem with carelessness and poor conditions in the American hotel business. Maybe hospitality needs stricter regulations here. I don’t know whether the owner doesn’t care or simply doesn’t know, but if they’re reading this, they should get the business in order one room at a time. It makes me wonder why cancer is so common in America, nearly one in three people, as I understand it.
If I’m ever in the area again, this is the only place I’ll consider. The service was the best I’ve had while traveling around the US. I made a simple booking mistake, and Ms. Tamar was understanding and helped my family. She answered our questions and went out of her way to explain what was available to us. This is the location to book.
We booked for December 17 through the 25th while visiting family and following the Grapevine for an assignment. We rarely write reviews like this, but want to warn other travelers. We’re veteran travel writers with over 20 years of work in domestic and international luxury publications, online and in print. On the second day, hot water started leaking in the bathtub. We reported it right away and were told it would be fixed, but it kept dripping for three days and made the room feel like a sauna or rainforest. They eventually moved us. A few days later, our door lock stopped working, and repairs took three hours or more. We had a tourism representative appointment for grade Fine and only just got out in time. The minimal breakfast also had rotten bananas and stale food. There were unsavory people staying there, people smoking in the lobby, and other problems. After checking out on the 25th, we called the hotel and spoke to a manager who refused to give her name at the time. She was rude and disrespectful. Back home, we filed a complaint with corporate, who were very nice and told us to call the hotel. We did, and the manager again refused to give her name then, though we have it now. She was rude, accused us of harassment, and used a racial slur toward us. We were trying to give professional feedback about what was wrong with the hotel, and she wouldn’t hear it. We’ll be pursuing this through our journalistic channels. We wanted to share this to protect other travelers.
