Fairfield Inn & Suites Marshall

The staff were friendly, and the bathroom and shower were great. The newer AC and better-than-usual fridge were nice too. The room was clean, although the cleaner smell was so strong it nearly knocked me over. Still, I wouldn’t come back. I spend about 300 nights a year in hotels, and this was the most uncomfortable mattress I’ve slept on. The pillows were just as bad, and the hard bed left my body aching after what little sleep I got. The old, dated rooms and furniture don’t feel up to Fairfield standards. There’s also a carpeted dip about three inches deep just outside the bathroom that drove me crazy.

Breakfast was disappointing, with very few options, and they ran out of coffee and waffle mix. There wasn’t any water either. The rooms were clean, but for a two-person, two-night reservation, we only got three towels. I don’t understand that.

We had to switch rooms because the first one had a toilet that wouldn’t refill, a toilet paper holder hanging halfway off the wall, and a broken light over the sink. The light was minor, but it added to the list. In the replacement room, the toilet ran off and on at night, the worn curtains wouldn’t quite close and had a small hole, and the bed was lumpy and saggy. My phone charger also wouldn’t stay plugged into the outlet by the desk. There was bad wall patchwork too. Based on this stay, I wouldn’t choose another Fairfield. The company doesn’t seem to check the quality of hotels using its name.

I wouldn’t recommend this place or stay again. I’d checked in through the app for my one-night reservation and arrived around 1 a.m. The first-floor room had a faint sour smell and an unusual wheelchair-accessible shower. When I asked for another room, I was moved upstairs, but the desk clerk couldn’t make me a key card. She escorted me and used her universal card, saying the computer was down and the app’s digital key might work. The water pressure in the shower the next morning was also below standard. I have Marriott Gold Status and had pre-checked in, so the arrival was especially disappointing.
