Walking down to Lake Michigan at night was a highlight, and our second-floor room seemed to have the best view in the hotel. Booking online was easy, and the Wednesday in August rate beat the nearby competition. The kids loved the pool's size and temperature, even though it was in another building and may be shared with other hotels. I don't think breakfast was offered, but there was coffee and vending. No real complaints, and we'd happily stay again.

The location is great, and I can imagine this was once a lovely place. Sadly, the business doesn't seem to be cared for now, and I would not recommend staying here. We arrived around 10 p.m. after driving about an hour when staff called to say nobody would be at the office to check us in. They sent us to another hotel down the road for our key. When we got back, there were no spaces that looked like hotel parking, so we had to park across the street. There was also no staff to call after 11 p.m. to raise any concerns. We were 2.5 hours from home, it was 10:45 or 11 p.m., and nearby places were booked, so our choice was this room or sleeping in the car. The online photos were very misleading. The room was outdated and run-down, and it wasn't clean. The air conditioner was blasting when we came in, and the moldy, musty smell was overwhelming enough that we turned it off and opened a window because breathing felt difficult. There were black mold spots and water stains in the bathroom, the floor hadn't been swept, and although the bathroom looked clean, I wasn't comfortable trusting it. The sheets had stains all over them. I hope the bedding had been washed and the stains were just old, but who wants to sleep on that? The fridge looked wiped out, yet had something growing inside. In the morning, my fiancé went to the office with photos to ask for a refund. The receptionist acted shocked and agreed the room was gross. She apologized and refunded the second night we had booked, but not the night we stayed. We still had to pay despite the mold, dirty room, and stained bedding.

The rooms are pleasant and the beds comfortable, so it's a decent motel if you want a good night's sleep near the water or the Badger. Parking is a problem, though, with far too few spaces for the number of rooms. They say there's a continental breakfast, but it isn't put out early enough if you're trying to board the Badger. Arriving after 10 p.m. also means checking in down the street.

We stayed three nights and really didn't want to leave, mostly because the bed was so comfortable. Our room was very clean, the windows opened, and it was quiet. The location is hard to beat, steps from the beach and an easy walk downtown. Prices and location worked better for us than the big-name hotels in the middle of all that traffic, and I'd absolutely come back. A couple of things were off with the TV remote. The volume button didn't work, though we could adjust it on the TV, and it wouldn't turn the TV off, so we had to unplug it. The water pressure could've been better, but it is an old building. I can't see why this place got so many bad reviews. Highly recommend!

The service was friendly, and we got into our rooms early. But one queen bed had a sheet with brown stains. Even if it had been washed, nobody wants to sleep on stained sheets. Please replace it. Losing return guests will cost more than buying a new sheet, and washed or not, that isn't okay.
