La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham McAllen La Plaza Mall

I traveled alone with my dog and felt safe here, with no concerns. The room was comfortable, the beds were great, and there were no strange smells or dog odors. It was generally clean, though I found hair on the towels, previously used coffee items, and a leftover bottle of Topo Chico. Some wallpaper is peeling and there are a few stains on the floor from past guests, but the room was still pleasant. Watch your step in the slippery shower. They provide floor mats, so use one. There’s a little bar downstairs that seems to have beer and wine, though it isn’t open reliably. I had a comfortable stay and would visit again.

We felt misled by our stay at La Quinta. The room rates and availability we’d seen online were quite different when we arrived, with the price jumping to $130. It came across as bait and switch. We were also told there’d be an extra charge for checking in early, despite the room being available. Customers need clear, honest pricing. We left feeling deceived, so I’d advise future guests to verify all rates and fees before they arrive. The experience fell short of what we expected.

I’ve stayed twice, and both times the room needed better cleaning. The desk and end tables were dusty, like they hadn’t been wiped in a while, which is why I’d give it four stars instead of five. Still, I love how pet friendly this place is. The staff are consistently helpful and friendly, the area generally feels safe, and having a bar inside the hotel is a nice bonus.

The room was quiet and clean, with extra towels supplied. The key cards, TV, and AC all worked well, including the thermostat and fan. Since this was an accessible room, I appreciated the spacious bathroom and its many safety bars. Staff were personable and helpful. I didn’t get up for breakfast, so I can’t speak to it.
