Hampton Inn Mebane

I’m only one night into a three-night stay, and the room was clean and smelled nice when I arrived. Breakfast has been good. But the water pressure on the third floor is awful, there’s no bathroom exhaust fan, and the pillows are a joke. The front desk guy wasn’t welcoming at check-in on 2-9-26, though it was after 8 pm, so maybe he’d had a long day. When I came back after the second night to ask for towels and extra pillows, I waited about five minutes for him to come out from the back. His attitude hadn’t changed. He huffed and sighed, then eventually brought the items, said “here,” and made me reach across the counter for the pillows before dumping towels into my other hand. It wasn’t a big request.

We stayed three nights and our room never got cleaned, with no fresh towels or linens. I was surprised there was no cleaning on the first day, then noticed a mirror sign saying they clean and change linens every two days. After the second day we returned in the evening to find nothing fresh. No one was at the desk, just a sign saying they’d be back. When I finally got someone on the phone and explained the room hadn’t been cleaned at all, they just said “OK” and hung up.

Update from March 2026: I’m dropping this to two stars. On a three-night return stay, the smoke detector started making a constant noise with a chirp every so often. It was late, so I waited until the next morning to report it, but the front desk was busy and I couldn’t mention it until after work. At 4:30 I was told maintenance had gone for the day. I brought it up again the next day and was told it would be handled, but nothing changed. The detector hadn’t even been moved, as I could tell because I’d turned it 45 degrees to check it. They ignored me. It’s so freaking annoying. Turn up the volume in my video and you can hear it. Before that, I’d call it a solid four-star stay. Nothing special, nothing bad: free parking and breakfast, the usual chain-hotel breakfast, plus a pool and gym. My room was clean.

After our flight was cancelled, we booked a room at the last minute, but then spent four hours in the lobby trying to get into the room we’d already paid for. For three hours the staff said they couldn’t check us in. After another 30 minutes on the phone, the hotel finally got instructions to process a cancellation and, somehow, suddenly managed to put us in a room. A complete failure by Hilton.
