Homewood Suites Melville

The pool room was hot and humid, but the water was cold. There was discolored foam around the tiles above the water, and my kids were so excited to swim, but I cut it short because the place felt so nasty. A shower afterward didn’t make me feel any better. We stayed two nights in the two-bedroom, two-bath suite with our three young children. For the price, and because it’s a Hilton, I expected at least a decent, clean place. Instead, the whole nonsmoking suite smelled like cigarettes. Furniture, walls, shower, floors, kitchen cabinets, basically every surface, had dirt, discoloration, or mold. The tub wouldn’t hold water for a bath, but when you showered, water pooled around your feet. There was a note saying housekeeping had to be requested. We called three times and nobody came. It took two visits to the front desk to get a basic cleanup and fresh towels. Staff were rude and condescending every time we interacted with them, to the point where it became comical. Before that, I’d called to ask about early check-in. The woman told me to call back at 3 p.m., which is check-in time anyway, and acted like she’d entered a request while huffing and puffing. She could have just said early check-in wasn’t possible instead of being so mean. We don’t travel much, but I usually trust a Hilton, especially when we’re spending a lot to accommodate the kids. This one is in an upscale, wealthy area, and I wasn’t expecting luxury, just basic cleanliness and decent treatment. I’m honestly shocked it has any good reviews. It makes me question staying at a Hilton again. Stay somewhere else.

We were in town for a soccer tournament, and this was one of the best Homewood Suites I’ve stayed at. When weather forced us to cancel our second night, the hotel surprised us by refunding the entire group. That’s excellent customer service. The rooms were spotless, breakfast was clean and well stocked, and everyone we met was helpful and kind. The front desk staff were especially helpful. As someone who travels often, I’d call this a gem. Keep it up!

We didn’t get to try the complimentary breakfast, though I’m sure we would’ve liked it. The rooms were spacious and clean, and Mark and Jessica were wonderful hosts, helpful, professional, kind, and accommodating. I didn’t see a hair dryer, but I think I just didn’t check the drawers. I’d definitely stay here again.

Mark at the front desk was personable and had great recommendations, and the rest of the staff were great too. The suite had plenty of room, with a living room, two bathrooms, and a kitchenette that was more than sufficient. Honestly, the hot tub was what sealed the booking, since it was 5° outside. Breakfast was solid, better than the just-okay hotel breakfasts I’ve had elsewhere. There was a waffle station, oatmeal, cereal, baked goods, bagels, and an egg and burrito station. Great stay, and I’ll be back.
