Southland Casino Hotel

The trip was good apart from the rewards card mess. I applied online in January for my February visit, but didn’t realize I had to sign up in person, so we missed out on the buffet. The card showed $100 in slot play, but putting it into a machine showed nothing and wouldn’t credit it. Jennifer later fixed everything on the card for my next visit. Thanks to her for taking the time to help.

I was in town overnight and picked this place because it cost less than the other hotels. Check-in was easy, and the front desk staff were helpful and really nice. The room was spacious and super clean. I got food at Fry House inside the casino and thought it was 10/10. I also won after putting some money in a machine, so no complaints about the casino itself. There’s also a spot outside the casino for food and coffee, with grab-and-go items. I’d stay here again if I’m back in Memphis.

The rooms were the best part: clean, comfortable, and quite nice. The rest of the stay left us disappointed. Staff interactions felt cold and unhelpful, and the casino floor had a dull, lifeless atmosphere. We won money on the machines, but it still wasn’t fun, and we wanted to leave rather than stay. The Players Club handling felt unfair. I signed up online before the trip and got no promotions, while my husband joined inside and received over $100 in free play during our stay. Online registration shouldn’t feel like a penalty. We paid $28 each for what was presented as a buffet. It was really about ten silver-covered trays off to the side, with a very limited selection, and didn’t feel like a buffet or worth the cost. Drinks were pricey too, about $16 each before tip, even for a basic Long Island iced tea. At Tunica Gold Strike those drinks are complimentary while playing, which made the prices here feel even less reasonable. We were looking for somewhere closer since we visit and stay at Gold Strike in Tunica twice a week. This wasn’t it. Nice rooms couldn’t make up for the staff, flat atmosphere, inconsistent rewards, and other costs. We won’t be back.

It was a nice, clean place, and I liked that smoking wasn’t allowed inside. There were lots of slot machines, plenty of parking, and I felt safe. I lost, but still had a good time at Southland Casino. I’m bringing my wife next Saturday.
