Extended Stay America Suites Hartford Meriden

I booked a room with two beds, but the AC was broken and made a loud grinding noise, so I asked to switch. There weren't any two-bed rooms left, and I had to take one bed instead. They said the room had just been renovated and shouldn't have problems. The renovation was true, but it clearly hadn't been cleaned afterward: dust and footprints were everywhere. I probably won't return to this location.

The kitchen supplies were inadequate: just one plate, a scratched pot, and too little silverware. I also contacted customer service and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but never heard back. During a very difficult stay, I felt the hotel showed no regard for my safety or dignity. I was homeless because of an illegal eviction and came to Extended Stay America in Meriden to get out of freezing weather while waiting for emergency funds to find permanent housing. I told the front desk and manager that my location needed to stay private because of an active restraining order against my ex, but they didn't respect that. Construction noise was constant, and both TVs malfunctioned. After I complained repeatedly, the manager seemed unconcerned. I had to find maintenance myself to remove one TV, and only the other one worked. When I asked to extend my stay a few nights while waiting for a check, the manager refused without compassion, despite knowing my situation. My key stopped working, leaving me in the lobby for 20 minutes while my cat was locked in the room. The courtesy phone didn't work when I tried to call the manager, who later said her own phone was dead. I'd advise others to avoid this place.

The hotel staff were excellent and very polite, except for the manager, who was rude to both guests and staff. My coworkers and I stayed in room 239 on February 2nd and 3rd, and we regularly work early mornings. The manager came into my sister's room while she was working and resting in her underwear. He said he didn't want us on the property because our work vehicles were parked outside his lot and we were still bothering him. He should have spoken to us and asked us to leave. Instead, his approach felt violent, rude, and abusive, with no courtesy or consideration for guests.

The hallways smelled like weed, and everything looked dirty. Our first room had feces inside the toilet, so we were moved to another that was outdated and dirty too. If they didn't even lift the lid to clean or check the toilet, I doubt the rooms were properly wiped down between guests. A heavy perfume smell seemed to be covering cigarette smoke, and my clothes and belongings smelled like the room after I left. Avoid this hotel.
